Zimbabwe’s War on Truth : The Arrest of Blessed Mhlanga

In Zimbabwe today, speaking the truth has become a revolutionary act. Blessed Mhlanga, a seasoned journalist known for his fearless reporting, was recently arrested not for breaking the law or inciting violence but for daring to give a voice to the oppressed. His crime? Conducting interviews, asking hard questions, and shining light where the powerful would prefer darkness.

We are witnessing a government that feels more threatened by words than poverty and more scared of questions than crime. Instead of answering the cries of a nation battered by unemployment, hunger, and corruption, they chose to handcuff the messenger. How ironic that those who preach democracy are the same ones destroying it from within.

Blessed’s arrest isn’t just about him; it’s about every citizen who dreams of a Zimbabwe where freedom of expression isn’t a luxury reserved for the powerful. When a journalist is jailed, it’s a warning shot to every citizen: “You could be next.” But this time, the message will not work. This time, Zimbabweans are watching. They are angry. They are ready.

Blessed Mhlanga represents the flickering flame of truth in a country where darkness is aggressively enforced. We must protect that flame. We must amplify his story. Because if the regime fears the truth enough to jail a journalist, imagine how powerful that truth must be.

They can silence individuals. They can raid newsrooms. They can spread fear. But they can never handcuff the spirit of a people who are finally waking up. We say today: Free Blessed Mhlanga!!!
